1-Have a list of questions you might want to ask about the company
Interviewers always ask the interviewee whether he or she has any questions about the company or job. Always prepared list before such interview, so that you don’t miss out on anything important.
2-Keep a copy of the covering letter and resume, which you sent to the company, in front of you
It will ensure that they hear exactly what you have sent them. If you don’t have a hard copy of the same and confuse some facts, such as which month you left your previous job, it may create doubt, they might think you are lying.
3-Keep a pen and pad ready, to take notes
You can write important issues to be discussed , like the job profile, the salary number you may discuss and any other issue you want to discuss on phone interview. You can also make notes of questions that may arise during your conversation or which you want to ask at the end of the interview.
4-Pay attention to body language
This might sound strange, but your body language matters on the phone almost as much as it does during a face-to-face meeting
5-Keep your answers short
Don’t give defensive or lengthy explanations on the phone. At any point you must lose the attention of the interviewer.
6-Have a glass of water close by you
To ensure your voice is smooth and natural, keep a glass of water neat you and take a sip of water before you start or during interview when you need it.
7-Follow up after the phone interview
Ask for the interviewer’s email address, if you don’t already have it. Send thank you email immediately after interview, thanking the interviewer and reiterating your interest in the job.
8-During the Phone Interview
Don’t smoke, chew gum, eat, or drink.
Do keep a glass of water near to you, in case you need to wet your mouth.
Use the person’s title (like Mr. or Ms. and their last name.) Only use a first name if they ask you to.
